Because of the success IBM had with the Design Hive In 2016, John Iwata was so impressed that he wanted IBM Design and the team I was on to own and build the SXSW experience to represent IBM in 2017. This included a larger budget that the prior year.
I was part of a team that worked to build a narrative, concept, and experience to exhibit IBMs impact on the world and the products and services we build that make peoples lives better.
We focused in on the developer, and landed on the concept of “IBM is making_” This was the idea that IBM is making people lives better, and we focused on key areas of each pillar of IBM. Cloud, Watson, Blockchain, Education, etc.
My role was early brain storming, concepting, working with the Brand team and designing collateral such as large posters, schedules, drink tokens, and many custom, hand made installations in the space.
